Exploring the quiet side of Acadia
This morning we woke to rain...a steady, soaking rain. We packed up our gear and drove to Acadia National Park, hoping that the rain would stop. Our plan was to find some trails to hike and enjoy a nice summer day on the quiet side of Acadia. The whole drive we had the windshield wipers on and things just didn't look good. We had rain gear packed, but it still wasn't our first choice of a day in the outdoors. By the time we finished lunch though, the rain had stopped and later in the afternoon we watched an eagle soar in a sky of perfect blue . For me, it was a reminder of how it is to follow God by faith. Sometimes when you are following Him in a venture, the way seems pretty miserable. You wonder if you're doing the right thing, but after moving out in obedience to what you think He's saying to do, you find the sky brightens and the sun shines brilliantly.
We hiked a series of short trails over Beech Mountain. As we climbed Beech Mountain, you would come out on clearings that would give you a view of other hills, cliffs, lakes, and the ocean. The views really were beautiful. As we rounded a bend that looked down on Echo Lake we watched a bunch of birds enjoying the updrafts of the wind that was clearning out the clouds. Suddenly we saw a bald eagle rise up and soar into the sky. What an inspiring sight.
We were all tired by the end of the day, but it felt good to be out and about in God's creation. Ethan's getting to be quite the hiker already!
