A Pumpkin and Deep Conversation

Over the weekend Ethan carved a pumpkin. I found a cute little booklet called the Pumpkin Prayer and we read it as we carved out the pumpkin. It began with asking God to open our hearts to Him. We cut off the top of the pumpkin as we did this. Then we asked God to help take away all the yucky stuff in our hearts. Of course this was when we de-gooked the pumpkin.

Here's when our deep conversation began. I told Ethan Jesus came to take away the yucky stuff in our lives. Ethan then piped up that Jesus died on the cross. He reminded me that the people were very sad that Jesus died on the cross. We talked about how Jesus is alive though and in heaven. Ethan then said he didn't want to go to heaven. We're still talking through that one. How do you explain death and heaven to a three year old? Anyway, it was pretty amazing how deep our conversation was while we made our cute pumpkin.
