Oh Christmas Tree
Today we put up the Christmas tree. Todd picked out a nice one for us and today we decorated it. It looks quite nice! We started to decorate it while Ethan was taking a nap. Things ground to a halt when he woke up, but when Sue arrived on the scene, Ethan was pretty happy to give up his Mom and Dad to the decorating process.
After I put the finishing touches on the tree during Ethan’s next nap, I had a few minutes to sit and reflect on things. I love looking at the tree. There are ornaments from beloved family and friends. There are ornaments that have hung on the tree for years, and new ones that have recently joined us. Many of them are symbols that point to the true meaning of this happy season. The green tree reminds me of the everlasting life Christ offers us. The red garland and balls point to his blood which brings forgiveness and makes us as white as the sparkling snow. The glistening gold and deep purple balls remind me that Christ is King of Kings and Lord of my life. The few blue balls point to heaven and my hope for eternity. There is much in this simple tree that causes me to worship our Lord and to be thankful for a few minutes of reflection.
This evening Ethan also had a few minutes with the tree. How he loved looking at it. Of course he wanted to reach out and touch it. What a smile was on his face! That smile quickly spread to his mommy and daddy. There is much to rejoice in this Christmas season!
