Friday, June 25th- Canyon Lands
Todd had a surprise for us all today. We took a 4x4 ride down into the cayon and back up. We saw things (and experienced things) that people just don't see from the rim. It was amazing. (Yes, I like that word amazing and I will keep using it!)
Ethan didn't feel so amazing at first. He was battling a cold and just wasn't happy. His throat must have been sore, because his voice was rather week. It didn't help that Mommy left Puppy and Tully to guard the camper bus instead of be his buddies. I was worried how the trip would go, but he did just fine and ended up falling asleep before we got back.
So, more details about this part of the trip. We had a driver who took us in our big old 4x4 to the floor of the canyon. From there she pointed way up to the top and told us that we would eventually be up there. Yeah, right! How would that work? Well, we drove and drove along an old cattle trail called the Shafer Trail and slowly kept creeping upwards until we hit a series of switchbacks which took us up the side of the canyon. From the top we were amazed at were we had been.
Of course, what goes up, must also come down. So later we again descended into the canyon. That was some driving. At one point a person on either side of the car could have casually extended their arms out the window and touched rock. And at another place we actually went under a huge boulder. WOW!
Later in the day we took some short hikes to see more of the sights. Ethan used Papa's walking stick so he could be like Daddy and did quite a bit of hiking. It really was amazing.
